IBIS BEADS FOUNDER VIRGINIA ALAND RUNS
THE BUSINESS FROM HER RURAL STUDIO ON
THE FAR SOUTH COAST OF NEW SOUTH WALES. THE ANCIENT EGYPTIAN TECHNIQUE OF
FAIENCE WAS HANDED DOWN TO HER FROM FAMILY 10 YEARS AGO.
She
now produces hundreds of hand moulded beads for her jewellery every month.
Every bead is hand formed from natural oxides in paste, sun-baked in the
open air to ensure the glaze reacts, then fired in a kiln. The result is
a mixture of beads ranging in colour from crackled cream to dazzling turquoise.
Finally, the beads are set in silver or threaded into unique jewellery pieces
- everything from multistrand chokers to silver bezelled rings and delicate
bracelets. Each piece stands out for its vivid colour and form, workmanship
as well as it's individuality.
Ibis Beads sells from local markets and galleries in Moruya and Berry on
the South Coast and Canberra. Virginia will also make to order depending
on your individual needs. |
